2004 Sportsman 500 – Only Pull Starts

Hi guys, my 2004 Sportsman 500 has been sitting in my garage for a couple years and I'm finally getting around to bringing it back to life.

It starts with a new battery and runs, but the way to get it to start is a pain:

I pull the choke out and turn the key and the starter runs strong, no start however. I give it a little gas and it sounds like it's almost about to start but still can't do it. But if I turn the key, give it a little gas, and pull the cord from the pull start at the same time, it finally starts up (almost need three hands to do that). I keep on the gas until it warms up and put the choke in (stays running idle around 1100 RPM, I'll probably turn that down with a screw driver later - I just can't remember what a good idle RPM is).

So the advice I'm asking here is where should I start to look for the problem? Would it be related to the starter, or maybe the spark plug, or something with the carb? Any tips would be appreciated!

Need OD dimension of 2008 Sportsman 500 rear axle shaft

I bought a set (40mm and 35mm) of bearing greasers from an Ebay seller. They are the over the axle style but the 40mm greaser won't fit over my rear axle shafts. I removed the bearing carrier to do some other maintenance and the greaser does fit inside the bearing and works as advertised.

I measured the ID of the greaser with a caliper and found it be 1.15".

The OD of the axle shaft is 1.18" and they are the stock axles.

Anybody know what the OD should be?

The 35mm greaser worked fine for the front bearings.

Can am commander won’t go over 28mph

I have a 2012 can am commander. Put a new battery in it,then went to ride and either key will go over 28mph!! Anyone on here have any ideas? I changed plugs fuel strainer cleaned the exhaust I’m lost?? Any help is appreciated.

What is the function of this?

Okay two questions.

1. Can someone please tell me the function of the port/nipple near the black hose? Refer to the attached picture.

2. Why would it be leaking coolant? If you look closely at the picture you can see the green coolant built up on the shelf below holding the brake cylinder. Found this right after machine startup.

Sportsman 800

New to the forum so bear with me. I just bought a 2010 sportsman 800 from a dealer and I'm having really bad throttle issues. Can't go in reverse without backfiring like crazy. Exhaust smells very rich. I'm running 93 octane fuel which is the highest we have around here. I can't seem to figure out the issue and the dealership I bought it from keeps saying it's just old gas but I've put 3 tanks through it. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm stuck... Thanks!

2008 RZR 800 Engine Rattle

Recently after a rough ride, lots of bottoming out on rocks, I've noticed a rattle on the passenger side near or in the engine. It comes and goes but seems to be getting worse. I've also noticed a loss in power. I've read it could be the exhaust manifold, the clutch, spun bearing....this is my first UTV and I'm not that mechanical. Gets loud, then when I sit and idle, it seems to go away for a bit.

2018 570 Outlander Gas IN OIL

I'm very new to this game last August for my birthday I got myself a 570 Outlander I use it not abused it. I took it in for its first maintenance at 10 hours they charged me $450. This year I've gone out twice and noticed my fuel consumption was double I took it into the dealership and they don't know what's wrong with it gas in the oil bad plugs and they don't know what's wrong they told me they've been on the phone with Can-Am. It's been on there bench since last Thursday as we all know these machines have a six-month warranty I thought I had bought the best. If anyone has any information or advice it's

96 Sportsman 500 Bogs in gear

Howdy! long time lurker. 96 Sportsman 500 4x4. When in neutral, revs high, idles fine, seems fine. When in gear, I can go about 2mph if I work it up very slowly. Otherwise bogs down and cuts off. Having trouble finding the right part to diagnose.

Current, maybe related, issues: I have to take off air cleaner and tap carb with palm to start it. Which (I believe) is a bad fuel pump. But I think it only serves its purpose to start?

I cant put it in gear while running, maybe idles too high or clutch problem. Clicks a lot. I have to put it in gear, and start it, if I want to ride. sometimes the shifter works, sometimes it doesn't. The shifter was seized when I go it, and I unfroze it with penetrating oil.

Things I've done/diagnosed that may be related: Has fresh gas. Choke and throttle cable are installed correctly. I have a second brand new carb and it does the same thing. I get a very bright blue spark from the new coil, wire, and spark plug. I've pulled valve cover and checked cam, looks fine to me but maybe I don't know exactly what I'm looking at. I have a mopar with a wiped lobe, and this cam doesn't look bad like that one did. Ive checked the flywheel key.

Any help appreciated, been trying to get this thing right for 2 years, its came a looooooong way thanks to the members of this forum.
