2004 Polaris Sportsman 700

My friend picked up the quad for me so I haven’t seen it yet but I want to go through it when I pick it up next week.

My questions revolve around servicing/changing the fluids, checking valve clearances, cleaning carb(s) and greasing pivot points etc. The quad also needs a seat cover. Who makes a good durable one? I don’t want to buy sight unseen cheap vinyl ones on eBay if they are thin junk.

What are some problem areas to look at and what type of lubes are recommended for the drivetrain etc?

Thanks,

Joe

Polaris interbrand compatibility?

Hi All,
Does anyone know if polaris shares chassis parts with other brands of ATV's?

I once had a lotus car with a broken door handle. it happened to be the same handle as that used on a triumph spitfire... the triumph sourced part was far cheaper and more importantly...available!

I'm looking for a middle axle used on 90-94 Polaris 4x6's and 6x6's. Not a common vehicle. I've had no luck on ebay, powersportsnation.com or searching google.

Thanks
Rick

2094 Outlander 330 Fuel Issue Solved!

I ran out of gas as I was climbing up a hill dragging a small log.

No problem, I went and got the fresh gas can and added a gallon or so, put the gas away and stared the bike - strange idle, then no power as I pressed the accelerator. Could not drive it unless I 'choked it.' Problem with that was it was a one-speed solution: fast. It did allow me to finish the work and upt the bike away.

I came to these forums looking for help. I found lots of stories, a few suggestions and help finding and downloading Parts Diagrams and images that were to help me find my way into the bike, dismantle the fuel system, replace a variety of parts from the fuel tank to the carb jets and put it all back together again.

I think this happened in January (right before I found this forum). At some point, I made room in the basement and moved the bike down there intending to clear a workspace so I might perform "the operation" in relative comfort.

I cannot find all the posts I got involved with looking for help with my 330 (that one here suggested was a 'kiddie' bike!). I wanted to share how I finally fixed the bike in case anyone else with a basement runs into the same problem/issue.

I kept putting off the repairs thinking I needed more information before taking the bike apart and ordering parts or otherwise 'committing' myself and my bike.

Then, I needed to haul a log or two and figured I could make do using the CHOKING IT approach that worked to let me put it away a couple months back.

So, I went on down to the basement and moved the lawn mower out of the way and rolled the bike over to the door, opened it, closed the choke and started the bike. It took a bit, but fired up. I took off the choke slowly (didn't want it to die, just to get slow enough to put her in reverse and back out of there).

Needn't have bothered. Took the choke completely off and hit the gas a few licks. Surprised, I put it in gear and backed out of the garage as if it had just come from an annual tune-up at the dealers!

Ran it about tugging logs an hauling firewood with out a single issue!

Time, it seems, does heal all wounds!

Or, could it be the rest?

The basement storage?

And, I did not order a single part!

Such a technique!:smile

2011 900 diesel ranger repairs

I bought it used from a Gov. Trade in. I've had to replace rear drive shafts recently. While I had it up on jack stands I noticed how much play is in the front spindles. I looked at bearing and they looked good. Could it be the spindle hub is worn out? I ordered new bearings anyway. This is my first side by side so I don't know the specs. Yet. I did notice that the spines are flush with the hub where the washers sit. No room to tighten into hub. Is this normal

Mossy Oak Break Up turned Purple?

What has anyone done to restore the factory color since it turns purple after time in the sun? I have seen a video of someone scuffing with a scotch brite pad then using Minwax polyurethane stain, It looks very good although a little glossy. My resurch shows the product is used on wood and indoor. My concern it's durability on the trails and in the sun? I don't want to have it peal, crack or turn yellow. Is there anything you people have used with success?

2010 559

Hopefully this can help someone. I asked the question a few years ago and received no answer. My power steering schit the bed years ago. I drove around without power steering for years. That really sucked. I made a uninformed purchase and got lucky I suppose. I bought a used unit off of a 13’ 850 with minimal miles. The mounting plate was different but I was able to swap those. It fit perfect and worked right away. I was concerned I’d have to take it to the dealer and have the power steering ecu reflashed(I was told the power steering has its own ecu or gets flashed separate? Got me). The part numbers were different on the units. I paid a couple hundred buck for the new used unit. No way was I going to spend $1800 on a wheeler I paid $4k for back in 11’. Anyway, maybe someone will find this info useful.
