My Polaris Sportsman 500 Big Boss nearly killed me this morning.

Throttle stuck wide open. Label on throttle control states ". . . this machine equipped with ETC, Electronic Throttle control, to PREVENT stuck throttle situations"

Uh, yeah, right! Wiped out my wife's flower bed and hit a tree at full throttle 30 minutes ago with brakes on full and wheel sideways trying to avoid. . . had to turn off key switch to stop. Now it is running WOT at IDLE even. What a . . . expletive removed but there were lots!

Some symptoms:
-- lately it has acted up a bit by going to high throttle and then self-reducing back to normal so I have opened up the throttle control and see nothing wrong, spring and cable seem to be working normally. This has happened at random and only a bout 5% of time in use.
-- noticed smoke coming from a white wire up front on left where a bundle of wires enter a little black box behind radiator, out in open fastened to a bracket holding the back of radiator. Smoked stopped quickly. Seems like the timing may correlate with start of these problems or soon thereafter.

WHAT is that little black box? about 4x3" x 3/4" thick. see photo.

Why would a wire be SMOKING? Aren't there fuses to prevent stuff like that?

Dealer not open yet today but I would appreciate some input on this. Could it be the ETC system is that black box and is that the thing actually causing the problem, ironically, since it is supposed to actually PREVENT this?! Unreal.

Tube valve stem type

Hi
First time posting...

I've searched what I think are the correct forums for over an hour looking for an answer, but have come up empty.

I have a 2008 Outlander Max 650. Today I put a hole in the sidewall of my rear tire (tire found a partial power saw file) ..... I patched it but am not confident that it'll hold so I'm looking to put a tube to ensure no leaks.

Tire size 26 x 10 x 12

Does anyone know what type of valve stem is required?
It'll be either a TR6 (straight stem) or a JS2 (right angled stem) or ..........?

And, if anyone has a link to an online retailer with the appropriate tube noted, I'd appreciate the response.
I live in the boondocks so mail order or UPS/FedEx is my only option.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/comments anyone has to offer.

Cheers, Chuck

Hello,
This is my first time one here. I am working on my 06 Polaris sportsman 500. At first I had several codes pull up, I traced down the main problem to the ECM. I replaced the ECM and all codes went away except 56, fuel pump short to ground, ect. Where I am confused at is now I have a code 74. I have checked several times just to make sure thats what it is. I have no I deal what a code 74 is. someone please help. Thank you.

Battery not charging

So I didn’t know anything was wrong until well it quit. Luckily I was with a group and I got a tow home. Just before it stopped it displayed “Lo”. Once home I measured battery voltage to be 10.6v. I’m guessing that’s what that Lo message was all about. Tested the Stator output. That checked out OK. Only thing left is the Rectifier/Regulator magic box. And it seems there is no way to test this magic box other than plug it in and see if it works. That’s all fine I’ll replace that magic box and all should be back to normal. What rots my socks about this is there is no fore warning to a looming engine failure. The “Lo” message was too little to late. Something like the alternator light in a car would be nice. Has anybody put such a light together.

Lunging

Hi I have 2011 commander 800R. Can anyone tell me what would make it kinda lunge when I let off the gas going downhill

New Primary Worth it?

Is it worth buying a QSC Primary if I don’t plan on running bigger tires? I run 26” HTR’s on my 18’ Rene 1000 XXC. I only trail ride at high speeds. Worth spending the money? If so, what type of benefits will I see? Thanks
