Throttle stuck wide open. Label on throttle control states ". . . this machine equipped with ETC, Electronic Throttle control, to PREVENT stuck throttle situations"
Uh, yeah, right! Wiped out my wife's flower bed and hit a tree at full throttle 30 minutes ago with brakes on full and wheel sideways trying to avoid. . . had to turn off key switch to stop. Now it is running WOT at IDLE even. What a . . . expletive removed but there were lots!
Some symptoms:
-- lately it has acted up a bit by going to high throttle and then self-reducing back to normal so I have opened up the throttle control and see nothing wrong, spring and cable seem to be working normally. This has happened at random and only a bout 5% of time in use.
-- noticed smoke coming from a white wire up front on left where a bundle of wires enter a little black box behind radiator, out in open fastened to a bracket holding the back of radiator. Smoked stopped quickly. Seems like the timing may correlate with start of these problems or soon thereafter.
WHAT is that little black box? about 4x3" x 3/4" thick. see photo.
Why would a wire be SMOKING? Aren't there fuses to prevent stuff like that?
Dealer not open yet today but I would appreciate some input on this. Could it be the ETC system is that black box and is that the thing actually causing the problem, ironically, since it is supposed to actually PREVENT this?! Unreal.
