New to forum w/ Bobcat 3400 utv

Hopefully this is an ok spot to post, I have a 2013 Bobcat 3400 UTV but is made by Polaris and is essentially a Ranger 500. There is next to zero information on bobcat UTVs online so I thought I’d turn here.

It began starting hard and now won’t start at all. Key produces clicking but starter doesn’t engage. I assumed it was the solenoid so I bypassed it with a screwdriver and it starts right up. Assuming I had it figured out a ordered a new solenoid from a local bobcat dealer because I didn’t want to get the wrong one and after I installed it it’s no better off. I sill have to bypass the solenoid to get it to start. Does this mean it wasn’t the solenoid to begin with or is my replacement faulty? Any help is appreciated!!

Noise coming from the drive side

I have a general question about the drive system and link to the transmission. When an ATV is in neutral and at idle does any of the belt drive system cause parts to spin in the transmission? I am working on my boys DS90X and the mechanic stated he thinks it is coming from the transmission. From what I see and understand the transmission will not engage until the clutches engage to drive the primary drive shaft.

I took the trans apart and do not see any problem. I drove out the primary drive shaft and the bearing seems in perfect condition. A year ago I rebuilt the trans with many new parts and all new bearings and seals. After looking at the trans in detail I can't find anything that looks wrong.

The last problem is the belt exploded. We replaced the front drive assembly on the crank shaft. We took off the belt and started the bike and no sound. I am at a loss what is the problem unless it is in the secondary part of the clutch drive system. I believe the sound is from something out of balance or alignment.

With all that, does something spin in the trans when at idle in neutral. If the answer is no then I know it is in the belt drive system.

Pickup tailgate extension for rear wheel hangoff

I just purchased a sportsman 850 and I plan on carrying it in the rear ofy pickup while I pull a travel trailer. The issue is I have to remove my tailgate as it will hit the stabilizer Jack when turning but the rear wheels of the 850 hang over about a foot. I have a roll and lock cover and that takes up some space in the front and I do have an aluminum ramp to put the front wheels up on that gives me a little more space. I am looking to purchase a smaller version of a tailgate that will give me about an extra foot like the picture I have attached. Does anyone have any idea where I can buy something like this?

’96 sportsman 500 dies when put in reverse

The blind leading the blind here. Working on a neighbor's quad, which he bought at an auction. Neither of us know much.

From neutral, with the engine idling smoothly, I push the foot pedal (brake? clutch?) AND hold the hand brake hard, and attempt to shift into reverse. Engine dies. Am I doing something wrong, or is there some bigger issue with the machine?

Arizona – Bulldog Canyon

Just recently, Wifey and I picked up a new Outlander 570 Max. Yesterday was our first shakedown cruise. East of Phoenix is an awesome recreation area called Bulldog Canyon. It's just South of the Salt River, and West of Saguaro Lake.

Great Horse, ATV, and Jeep trails. We had to make our run short, due to the unseasonably high temps. Yesterday was 102F. Today we may reach 108-109F.

So at this point, we'll take the 570 up North. For the Remaining 8 months out of the year, Bulldog Canyon is a great place to get out and enjoy the Desert.

Cv joint cage direction

Well I ripped a front outer cv boot in my 1000 took apart axle to rebuild and when I knocked the cup off the shaft it hit the floor so hard it jarred the cage and sprocket inside sideways before I got a chance to take note which way they were in there. Wondering if anybody knows or had a trash axle they feel like ripping apart haha. There are very slight differences on the cage from one side to the other.. One side has one horizontal face the other has 2, the sprocket is easy to tell one side from the other. One side is angled into the splines the other isn't, I assume angled side faces out, I'll add pictures in a few hours when I get home. Any help is appreciated

Roll over this weekend

I was climbing a steep mound of gravel and my 1000 flipped backwards on me. I was pinned underneath full about 10 seconds until my buddy got to me. After I got out from underneath it rolled down the hill. It rolled over twice. Once it was back on its tires, it didn’t run properly and the brakes weren’t working. Had a break service message on the display.

We let it sit for about 20 minutes and than it fired up and everything ran properly. Checked the oil, checked the air filter. Everything seems fine. Very minimal physical damage. I’m a little sore but nothing serious. Any thoughts on what else I should check? Bleed the breaks perhaps?

Pic is right before the roll over lol

Subasm-Park Lockout

Can anyone tell me what this part does? Will everything continue to work if it is disconnected? What does it hook to:?

Second trip to Moab (2018)

Just got back from our second trip to Moab (April 27 - May 5). Wife and I pulled the Polaris 550's out for the second year in a row.

Preparations for the second trip were much easier...knew exactly what to bring, trailer prep was much quicker, ATV's were maintenanced and ready to roll.

Told the wife to be prepared for some challenges...as last year's trip was waaaaay to easy and uneventful. Those words turned out to be spot-on. Less than two hours in to our trip the Big Block threw a check engine light. Thankfully my good friend is service manager at GM dealership. Fourteen years of ownership and I've never seen the check engine light on this truck. Stopped at O'Reilly's and rand the ODB2 scan...MAF sensor needed cleaning, and we were back on the road.

We break the drive up by staying in our neighbor's condo in Georgetown, Colorado. Next morning we were loading up the truck and prepared for the trek over the pass...and I noticed a puddle of fluid under the truck(?). Crawled around and yes, it was coming from my truck(!). A text, call and some photos to my buddy and we determined the water pump had probably took a crap. So called dealerships in Denver asking 1), could you get me in today, and 2), could you get a water-pump for a 8.1 GM V8? Emich Chevrolet in Loveland was very helpful...we were in by noon and walking out by 5:15 pm, my wallet $850 lighter, but very thankful we didn't lose another day. Dealership was awesome!!

Remainder of the drive was uneventful mechanically. Beautiful scenery.

Arriving at Moab, our AirBnB was located on road right next to Swanny City Park...and there was a car show. We had to ask police to help us get past barricades and blocked roads to our rental. He suggested we get out of town before 3 PM, the time when all the cars would leave the show and start cruising main-street. We made it out and headed to Gemini Bridges and Metal Masher...and then this...

Last year was our first big ATV trip. I started the wife off on some easier trails, built her confidence and awareness. For some stupid reason I thought Metal Masher would be a good place to start this year. Nope.

It's just the two of us and I'm pretty conservative on the trails. If the obstacle looks to much, I opt for the by-pass, or I offer to drive the wife's ATV for that part.

This section of Metal Masher was a u-shaped ledge that I was able to get up with little problem. Wife got up okay, then caught some traction on right side and pulled her ATV up causing an extreme angle. Shen panicked a little and applied throttle, pulling her further up the side...and started to tip backwards. Thankfully I was standing right there spotting and was able to grab on and holder her steady. I couldn't pull her down straight...the "slick-rock" was too tacky. So we winched her down straight.

It was definitely a pucker-moment for both of us.
