Selection dilemma

Just joined and this is my first post (Sorry it went a bit long). I got my son a smaller 300cc Arctic Cat for Christmas last year (Was a last minute decision and turned out to be the best present ever!!) he has about 400 miles on it since then. Well this has now turned into getting me one as it is a lot more fun to ride together than for me to stand and watch him ride.

I usually do a lot of research and I am really in a quandary with my decision. We live in eastern central Florida and we ride a lot around our house as we have some very large areas in riding distance from our home. Power lines, 2 large lakes with trails all around and we will also be traveling to Western North Carolina in the mountains at least once a year as well. So our riding will be varied to say the least.

In my past I had up to 500cc 2-Stroke dirt bikes (The usual progression, 125, 250 then the CR500) and the last one I had had been modified (engine and suspension) and the best word I have ever come up with is that it was "Violent". So I am used to power, I have also had large bore sport bikes as well.

On to my dilemma I really like the Renegade X XC , but I am not sure it is the most practical as we will be in some muddy conditions (Not MUDDING) and I know it also has no storage so not the most practical. I then got onto the Outlander X XC as it and the Renegade X XC both have the really great shock package (Fox Podium 1.5 RC2) which I think is awesome. I also want a winch for those just in case situations and bead-lock wheels. I have tried to go through the price out option on Can-Am's web page but the Outlander X XC does not bring this option up as I assume it has to do with the skid plates installed from the factory (I am sure the dealer could do it but I have not asked them yet on the cost).

This has led me to look at the Outlander 1000 XT-P. I saw one at my dealer the other day and I really like it. My one issue with this unit is that it has the QS3 shocks. Is this a bad thing? Can these shocks fit most of the adjustment needs for standard trail, some light mudding and then some maybe more harsh climbing conditions up in the mountains? I really like the idea of maybe just getting the Renegade X XC and putting a winch on it and being done but I also like the storage/racks on the Outlander and I know it will provide some better protection for me going through streams and mud areas etc.

I have been back and forth so many times but at this point I want to put it out to you. Based on my information above can you guys/gals give me some real world usage input? One other note (not a deal breaker either way though) is I really like the instrumentation on the Outlander vs. the Renegade X XC.

I know you can't make the decision for me but real world practical information would be awesome.

Thanks for your time.

2018 cab heat in Commander

I'm in the market for a new ATV and am interested in the Commander. I sometimes ride in very hot conditions with my current ATV and I see posts about the Commander having problems with too much heat build-up in the cab. Some say they couldn't lean their leg on the console because it got too hot. Among other posts about heat build-up in the cab, they it was so hot underneath that occasional leaf buildup sometimes caught fire. If that's true, it seems to me that the engine and exhaust is getting way to hot to be safe and is a Can-Am problem. That much heat build-up would not only make riding in hot conditions miserable but would certainly make me afraid to ride a Commander in a desert.

However, those posts were from 2016 -- and earlier! Since I haven't found any discussion of that problem in more recent posts, I wonder if Can-Am has fixed the problem since then.

Any comments about heat build-up in the cab of the 2018 Commander?

Thanks in advance,
Crockett

Anyone able to discern the build date for my 2007 Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI from the VIN? If not, I'll have to wait for Tuesday to call a dealer before ordering parts.

01 Xplorer 400 & 95 Xplorer 400 share any parts???

I own a 95 Xplorer 400 and I have the opportunity to buy a 01 Xplorer 400 for parts. I was wondering if the 01 will be any use to me for a parts? From what I've been able to find out is the engine and/or trans is different due to the shaft drive vs. chain drive. Will the rest of the machine be useful to me? I'm new to both models.
