Grinding noise

2005 Polaris Sportsman 500. Started to hear a grinding noise where the starter and bendex is when trying to start the bike with the key, until eventually it wouldn't even start with the key anymore, as it would just do the grinding. The bendex has been already changed not long ago. I pulled the old starter out and sure enough the starter was pouched. I installed a new starter hoping it would solve all my problems, but looks like I still have the grinding noise but bike won't start from the key still. The grinding noise is coming from where the bendex is.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Kevin

Hard cranking 500 atp

I left my 2004 500 atp up at my brothers cottage for a month. My brother was up there this past weekend and decided to used it. But after ten minutes in the bush it bogged out and stalled. He tried to start it, but it struggled to turn over before the battery didn't have enough power. So he tried to pull start it but it was hard to pull over and was unable to start it. Upon checking the oil, he found it to be very low on oil.

Long story short. I've got it home now and tried starting it with the same results. It's not seized so I'm not sure this is a result of low oil. Ive drained the remaining oil and about a quart came out. I've added new oil to the reservoir and put a little down in the cylinder but there is just to much resistance to pull it over fast enough to get it to fire.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this resistance? So far I've check the clutch and belt and they look to be in normal condition, and I know it's not the decompression valve because the resistance is on the entire stroke. Now....what I did find was that the boot between the carb and air box, was not seated properly and a small piece of rubber was missing. Approximately 1/4"x 3/4" piece. Could a hunk like that have gotten in to the cylinder and gummed up the piston?

Cecco CVT Brace

Hey everyone,
I installed Cecco's CVT brace tonight. It's another great product released from Rick. Looks great and twice as strong. Highly recommend.

Thanks,
Tom

Heated Grip Install

Hi Guys

I got the Polaris heated grips and thumb warmer for Christmas and was installing them but was wondering where I should connect the power and ground wires. I have these red and yellow wires in the pod but not sure what they are for.

Thanks
