I trimmed my fenders this weekend and put my over fenders back on. I figured now that the bike is a little more used and abused I wouldn't cry chopping up my painted fenders. I just wanted to share in case anyone ever wants to see it for themselves. I just moved and had enough tools unpacked to get this done before moose hunting.
I used a Milwaukee Hacksawzall with a metal blade and then ran a sharp knife along the edges. I taped it with painters tape to have a edge to follow when trimming the fenders. I also used metal shears to notch out the over fenders now that they sit closer to the seam for the fender and footwell. Not perfect by any means but I got my added clearance for bigger tires next year. The screws down the vertical edge sit too far in for my liking but that's ok. I have a pic of one side that was factory and the other pics are of the aftermath.
