Due to a Polaris manufacturer's defect ("Phantom Check Engine Light") on some 2017 850SP Touring models, and with the help of a million emails from me and big-time help from the GM of 4 Seasons Motorsports in Rye, AZ, I had occaision to spend time with both the 850SP and the 1000XP Touring models. Even though the bikes have identical dimension specs and differ only in a 10hp difference, I've concluded the following:
* The 1000XP EBS is not near as aggressive as the 850SP - very effective but much smoother.
* Brakes seem less effective on 1000, taking longer to slow the bike down.
* Seat of the pants power differential is subtle. The 1000 is just a big stronger feeling all the way thru the power band.
* The "Stealth Black" of the 1000 actually has a subtle glittery treatment. Kinda cool, I guess.
* 850 display light up with a blue cast; the 1000, with an orange (more pleasing to my eye) cast.
* 850 has single rearview mirror, left side of handlebar; the 1000, dual mirrors. Biggest advantage for me of the two.
Any questions, let me know,
Scott
