New to Polaris

Hey everyone. I'm new to both this forum and to owning Polaris bikes. Just picked up a used 1998 XPLORER 400 4x4 that is IMO great condition for its age. Everything works and I can pull start it in 3 pulls or less in 20 something degree weather that we are experiencing at the moment. It was covered in dust from sitting in a barn for the last 3 years, but cosmetically it was fine. Engine, trans and belts seems fine as well. It has 2100 miles on it. I'm still getting used to not having to change gears and the fact of it being a two stroke, but its been a great experience so far for the little riding that I have done. I'm going to keep it park till now it warms up enough that I can tear it down some and verify all the parts are working.

I found this site/forum and got on here at first looking for a manual. No one seems to have a manual posted for a '98. Anyone have an owners manual? Any help in tracking one down would be great. I have acquired a parts manual and a service manual.

90 cc scrambler no power

Was running fine now it is gutless. It will accelerate for a bit and run ok then it becomes sluggish. Once it reaches this condition I can give it full throttle and it on't budge and then dies. Thoughts?

Polaris 700 Running loud

Hi,
Yesterday I was plowing snow with my ATV, and it ran just fine, I parked it, came out today and its like super loud, and it almost seems like its just running a lot harder, Does anyone have any idea what my problem is?
Just an offhand guess (from an obvious novice) is something with the muffler?
Thanks

When do you change your brake fluid?

The manual says to change every 2 years; however, if it is hardly used then is it necessary? I know brake fluid isn't like engine oil but it's still a question I've had since owning my machines ('13 Sportsman 500 &' 14 Sportsman 850 xp). I have not changed the brake fluid in them yet. But they are low in hour usage (500: 75 hours, 850: 115).

Anyhow, I'm trying to get them ready for the spring. Any thoughts on the brake fluid?

2018 Xxc Tires, need more ground clearance.

I ride on a lot of Rocky (big Rocks) trails with a good amount of mud.
My stock ITP's are just not cutting it.
I'm smashing up the bottom of my Quad a lot and need some more ground clearance.
I'm thinking a bigger tire may help, maybe 27"??

The problem is I also like to ride fast to keep up with my Dirt Bike buds and I don't want to sacrifice handling too much.

Any sugestions? Zillas?

Thanks,
Mark

Which Sportsman??

I have a lakehouse that has a long driveway fits 9 cars in a row, a boat ramp a mile away to tow pontoon boat and some decent Midwest trails nearby. My available used choices are

2004 Sportsman 400 with plow $2700 250 miles 1400 hours

2004 Sportsman 700 no plow
$3000 300 miles 1000 hours

2013 Sportsman 850 HO no plow
$5500 750 miles 8 hours

Used for
Mainly yard work, firewood and up and down the hill to our own boat dock, to load and gas it up. You know the back n forth trips having a boat.

Plowing snow - 9 car driveway

Towing pontoon boat to ramp a 1/2 mile

Hitting trails 10 miles away 3x a year

Any advice would be appreciated. I just got the house last year, neighbors us golf carts 9 months out of the year I want something all year and to hit the trails with my 11 year old when we get time. Thank you for your help. 1st ATV purchase.

Dalton clutch kit weights

I was wondering if anyone experimented with using the different weights that come with the kit. I’m looking for some weight guidance for my 570...hmf slip on .. hmf tuner..28” maga mayhems. Not sure if this stuff matters but that’s my setup I’m sticking with. Any info would be helpful... thanks
