2006 Sportsman 500 EFI

I am new to the forums, but not new to ATV's, rode my friends machines occasionally and finally decided to take the plunge with this project.
The story:
3100 km 497 hrs on machine, factory winch and work lights, green plastics.
Advertised as a 2005 but was built in late November 2005 and I can't find a 2005 500 with EFI but there is a 2006 500 EFI. It is a Canadian model if that makes a difference, is that what is referred to as an International model when looking up parts?
Just bought this yesterday, knowing that the seller did disclose a noise at higher speeds beforehand but tried to tell me it was just the belt, so as it happens there was a brand new Polaris drive belt included in the sale, apparently he hoped I would take his word, go home, change belt and all good... right?
So I go for a very short test ride, noticed that the trans would make the noise when in high gear taking off from a stop with light throttle application. Low gear fine, reverse fine, rolls easily in neutral, and park holds.
I said " I'll change the belt here and now, and if it still pops out its not the belt is it?" He agreed (sort of) and I changed the belt, which took about half an hour start to finish, (thanks Youtube) most of that time messing with the cover and vent ducting going back together, it's sure a lot easier to replace the belt on a sled!
So belt changed, trans still does same thing. I am not surprised. I pull the trans drain plug, there's oil but its a little dark. I mention the cost of a new trans and the likelihood of selling the machine to anyone else in its condition.
I buy it for a very good price, take it home and start researching. Haven't torn into it yet. I think its either worn dogs on the high gear, or the high/reverse engagement dog. Possibly a bent high/reverse shift fork or damaged groove in the shift drum where the high/reverse shift fork contacts it.
Without tear down I won't know for sure, but could a very loose final drive chain/worn tensioner shoe also give the same symptoms? I just am not sure if the chain would skip in high range but not low range. All the other gears seem to work properly.
Priced out the gear and engagement dog, about $200.
Is it common for these parts to fail at such a low mileage?
Thanks for your time.

Clunking noise when shifting

Thought I would share some information that I just learned.

I just pulled my engine/gearbox out because of a failure on the rear drive shaft, and I thought that there may be damage inside the gear box. I opened up the gear box and found nothing wrong, but I was able to identify where the clunk sound is coming from after you shift into a new gear. On the top of the shift drum assembly is the index washer (kind of looks like a 5 pointed star), alongside that is the index lever with a roller on one end that goes into the indents of the index washer with a strong spring for tension pushing the roller into the indents. When you shift the shift drum is turned and the index lever is pushed away and then starts to go into the next indent. The clunk that many people have complained about is when that index lever has started to go into the next indent but does not go all the way and then when you start to give it some throttle it clicks the rest of the way into the indent and makes that heavy clunk sound. I don’t see any way to remedy this, sometimes the index lever will slip in the way it should and then the next time it won’t, but the good news is that it does not appear to be causing any damage.

Hi from Canada

Hi all,

My name is Pascal and I'm the new owner of a red 2018 Sportsman 570 EFI. With hunting season just around the corner, I needed to buy a reliable ATV. It's my first recreative ATV (I had a few quad racers before that) so I don't know much about them, hence why I'm subscribing here. I went with Polaris mainly because everyone around me are riding Sportsmans.

It's stock, fresh out of the crate, besides the 2500lbs winch that I had installed. I was told it's a must! The only thing I'm planning to add is an LED bar for night riding and probably a front bumper.

Looking forward to learn a few things here. Cheers.

OEM Can AM Beadlock Wheels or Wheels/Tires–Where to Get Them?

I'm looking for a full spare set of OEM factory OEM Can AM Beadlock Wheels. I have a 2018 Renegade xXC with the 12 inch black wheels/red beadlock rings. I'm hoping for excellent to new condition wheels in the same color. I'd buy a takeoff set with wheels and tires if the price is right.

Where's a good place to look for them? New from Can Am is too much. I tried the for sale forum on this site but I didn't see anything. Are there any other good sites where I can find some?

Quick question--do the wheels from the 2019 xXc models fit? I know they're wider this year but didn't know if they'll still fit other models with the last suspension design or not. I think the wider stance could help handling.

Mounting a 12” LED bar to my sportsman with no bumper. Feasible?

Hi all,

Trying to figure out if I can install a 12'' LED bar on my 2018 sportsman (no bumper) that I picked up this weekend. I saw a lot of DIY installation videos, but none that actually had no front bumper. The center mesh grill opening (see 2nd picture below) is 12'' - Of course, a 12'' LED bar would be a tight fit and would probably require cutting. I could go with a 10'', but I'd rather get a 12'' since they have 2 rows of LEDs.

I'll also probably need to build a custom bracket at this point, which is not an problem.

Has anyone here successful installed one on theirs?

Thanks in advance.

2006 outlander 800 help

I changed the outer secondary clutch and the cam behind it. The belt had broken and the cam was stripped. I got all the parts back on and now when I put it in gear it starts going instantly. Before I had to hit the gas to have it start. I start it in neutral and put it in gear and it either takes off or dies from not having gas. What am I missing? I really don’t have the cash to take it to a shop.

Engine Overheating

I have a 2008 Outlander 650 with approximately 240 Miles on the unit. I have had the unit services by a Can-am dealer almost every year since purchased new. While planting food plots last year and this year the engine light would come on because the unit was overheating. The fan is working and there is a new air filter installed. The dealer said they cant find anything which makes me wonder if I should change the radiator fluid. Any help and or suggestions would be great!

06 sportsman 500 oil leak on valve cover?

Was riding and all of a sudden engine was not running well...looked under and seen a little oil leak from what I think is the valve cover...drive it down the mountain 5 miles and seamed to run fine..parked it just to be safe...would the gasket leak make it run bad for a few minutes?
