Speedometer In-op

Hey I am new to the site recently purchased a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500. The speedometer would work intermittently (suddenly the needle would just continue to make a full resolution and then not work at all). Did some research and read that if the reverse override and 4wd work than it points at hall effect switch. Replaced it still does not work back light works, odometere reading shows but obviously does not work, and hour meter works. Don't really wanna spend the 300-400 for the speedometer like I have been seeing any ideas or testing procedures that you guys have ran into?

2 weekends= 4 rides= great trail time with friends and family= BEAUTIFUL SCENERY!!!

Had the great opportunity once again to get out and share some of our favorite trails with our dear friend that has cancer, family, and out of state friends. We crammed 4 rides into the last two weekends even managing 2 in one day two weekends ago. Even though we are getting smoked out from the fires in California and Idaho, we didn't let that stop us from getting out and having a wonderful time on our mountain trails. Friends traveled in from Central North Dakota for their first ever mountain trail ride and didn't want to leave when it was time. The best part about that is that means they will want to come back by then hopefully we can find more new trails that we want to share. We managed to get to two mountain lakes, an old fire look out tower (now available for dry camping), and one of our favorite rides that takes us up to huge open areas on top of mountain ridges between the Lone Mountain Peak ski area of Big Sky and the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. This last Saturday was awesome as most of the smoke was absent from the area and as an added surprise they extended the two track trail another 2 miles to get us up onto the top of another ridge for spectacular view of our Rocky Mountains. Was able to get our two Can Am 570's out, are really enjoying the 2-up, I don't think the power steering is working like it should so will get it into the dealer soon. Hope you enjoy the photos. FF

Charging.

So this is why I don't by used cars and trucks. 2001 xplorer 400. Got everything running really good now the battery is not charging. I put the meter on it reeved it up to 3000 to 4000 rpms like the book says. It should have jumped up to 13 plus volts. It did not change. What is the normal things that go to make it not charge. Easiest to fix, change to hardest. I haven't cleaned any of the contact points up yet. I believe is was charging because I haven't had to charge the battery at all since if got it running. Had to a few times while I was working it but not in awhile. Let me know what y'all think

visco lok not working like it used to

When I got my 2016 outlander max, I was VERY impressed on how well the visco lok worked compared to my 2005. This last weekend I took it out and it wasn't working at all! I had one front slightly off the ground while the other front wheel was planted hard on the ground. The one in the air just kept spinning and never got my up the obstacle. I LOVE 4 wheeling this thing and I have praised how well the visco lok worked in the past. Anyone know why it would suddenly stop working and what I should check?

2002 Xplorer 400 Counterbalance Oil

I've got a new-to-me 2002 Xplorer 400 that sat for a while before I bought it. Clean machine that just got a new top end. I've changed all of the fluids and greased nearly ever fitting. However, the counterbalance oil is confusing me. When I check the dipstick near the carb, it comes out with clear, clean oil right to the fill line. When I removed the skid plate, I saw the drain plugs for the recoil and crankcase and both were dry. When I pull out the counter balance bolt, there was (I believe) an all-purpose grease inside. I stiff "plug" of it came out on the tip of the bolt. I wiped it off on a rag and it smelled like all purpose grease. I poked a piece of wire up into the drain hole to break the log jam but nothing came through. It seems like there is grease at the counterbalance drain hole stopped the clear oil on top from draining through. Then again, the dipstick shows clear oil.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this old oil that coagulated somehow? How does one drain or clean this out?

The only advice I remember from the seller was to check the counter balance oil often. Could he have had a leak and decided to plug it with grease?
