97 Scrambler 400 primary clutch pull water method question

I have heard of using the water method to pull the primary clutch, people keep saying to use the original clutch bolt and put Teflon tape on the threads, I understand everything that was explained. I understand the water pressure is what causes the clutch to pop off, my question if I am putting the water in the bolt hole. How does it actually pop it off if it’s threading into the crank, wouldn’t it just seize the bolt from tightening. First clutch like this I have owned and need to pull it to replace the back case of the belt box.

Why I bought the Sportsman 570 instead of Yamaha Kodiak/Grizzly

I spent the better half of a deployment in 16”-17” looking at ATV’s. By the time I was stateside, I was stuck between Yamaha and Polaris. A Month ago, I was still pretty certain I wanted the Yamaha. Keep in mind that I think Yamaha is an outstanding brand. I’ve owned a Stryker and it’s the best motorcycle I’ve ever ridden. That said, after seeing the two bikes in the flesh and side by side, the 570 was clearly better for me. Sitting on the Grizzly and Kodiak felt cramped for someone my size, 6’4 - 220lbs. I felt like I was perched too high on the machine and like I could be bucked off or thrown forward. There was also zero seat space behind me for a lady friend to ride along. The lack of built-in storage was also a drawback for me. Sitting on the sportsman felt worlds apart from the Yamahas. I felt like I was sitting “in” the bike and the comfort was comparable to a classic Cadillac. The AWD system is ultra casual and easy to control. Also, with the value difference, I opted for EPS as well. Another plus is that I have more space to add a custom built dog carrier. The things keeping me from wanting to buy the Polaris were the mountains of complaints about failing machines. That said, I noticed that much of the damage was actually from misuse and abuse. Busted axels from oversized wheel/tire combos, electrical damage from lack of heat add ons, deep mud exposure to intakes/exhaust, overloaded electrical from add ons and so on. To me the sportsman was too good a value to pass and the problems are overstated in my opinion. It’s an ultra luxe trail machine, probably even more machine than I really need, and I’m looking forward to the adventures ahead. Good riding folks!

2016 850 XT Gearbox Drain Plug?

I've looked online and watched videos of where to drain my gearbox oil on the bike but mine doesn't seem to been where everyone else is? the fill plug is in the same spot but i cant seem to find the drain plug? Did they change anything for the 850's?

CDI Problems

I have a 2000 Polaris magnum 500 that I've replaced the CDI box in twice now and it just "blew" again. It happens when I go in reverse - about when the rev limiter should kick in - the engine dies. The only way to get it back running is to disconnect the black "kill" wire and restart the engine. It runs fine with the wire disconnected but it won't shut off with the kill switch or the ignition key. It just keeps running. To shut the engine off - I have to reconnect the black kill wire and then it shuts off. It won't restart until I disconnect the wire again. Everything seems to operate - AWD switch, lights, etc. but I can't tell if the battery is charging. I don't know where to test for it. I've checked the VIN number and have made sure i'm buying the correct CDI box. On this second replacement, I also bought a new speedo and ignition switch in an attempt to rule out one of those items being the culprit. I'm getting pretty frustrated - can anyone help? Has anyone else had an issue with this?

A arms

Yes I’m thinking about putting 30 in zillas on my 13 850 wondering do I need to run arched a arms or just cut and trim the rear foot well a little ?

2013 500HO carb leak

My carb has developed a leak on the float bowk. Looks like the float drain. Small drain with an allen screw on the side. I made sure the allen is tight but its still leaking, Any thoughts/

New to Polaris ATV’s

Good Afternoon. I am new to Polaris ATV's and searching for a little information that participating in a forum like this always seems to bring.

Late last year I purchased a 2014 Touring 850 - it seems like a great machine. The unit I purchased was not equipped with a winch. Before going out for any serious fun / work I figured this would a must for a middle aged dude to have in place.

I recently ordered the appropriate 3500 Polaris kit (2880435) that was recommended on Polaris' website and I just received earlier in the week.

Here is where my problem starts - the instructions and all information on the web is indicating the wiring already being included in the factory wiring harness for both the handle bar switch and the small two pin connector at the winch. After inspecting my chassis very carefully, I am convinced this wiring in NOT in my factory harness.

I am certain many of you have installed factory winches before and perhaps have run into this situation. Any advice for this newbie would be greatly appreciated.

With Kindest Regards,
Fred
