New to Polaris ATV’s

Good Afternoon. I am new to Polaris ATV's and searching for a little information that participating in a forum like this always seems to bring.

Late last year I purchased a 2014 Touring 850 - it seems like a great machine. The unit I purchased was not equipped with a winch. Before going out for any serious fun / work I figured this would a must for a middle aged dude to have in place.

I recently ordered the appropriate 3500 Polaris kit (2880435) that was recommended on Polaris' website and I just received earlier in the week.

Here is where my problem starts - the instructions and all information on the web is indicating the wiring already being included in the factory wiring harness for both the handle bar switch and the small two pin connector at the winch. After inspecting my chassis very carefully, I am convinced this wiring in NOT in my factory harness.

I am certain many of you have installed factory winches before and perhaps have run into this situation. Any advice for this newbie would be greatly appreciated.

Hi or Low.

I recently purchased a 2009 outlander 500 MAX XT which had 180.7 miles on the bike when I picked it up. what gear is best to ride in ? I ride some small short trails near my home that can be anywhere from wet to completely dry depending on the time of year. I also do some riding on a somewhat hilly trail at my uncles house. I have a friend who has invited me up to his camp that has open trails as well as old logging trails, steep hills, mud/water crossings etc. So what gear is the right gear to use and when ?

front~~ to ~~ rear width ???

Im not sure how to ask this, but:

is there some kind of ratio of front width to rear width?

ie: 28x8x12 front to a 28x12x12

or

can you only go with a 2" difference front/rear?

any "general rule-of-thumb"

2002 Sportsman 500 HO No power??

Hey. Last night, went to crank my quad and it acted like the starter hung. It wouldn't turn over and I couldn't pull start it.

Finally I was able to pull start it and it fired up, but then the lights flickered and the speedo needle was moving all over the place. Then the lights stopped flickering, and it seemed to work ok, except no speedo at all. It's a new one by the way. The 4 WD was working.

When I turned it off after I loaded it, nothing. NO power at all. Even when running the winch wouldn't work.

I also need to know how to adjust the shifter. When I put it in low range, getting it back into neutral, reverse or high is a royal pain in the rear.

JD Trail Buck 650 stumbles when warm

I have a JD trail buck 650, and it runs strong for a minute or two, but once it gets warm it will stumble and backfire any time you get over about 1/3 throttle. It acts like it is starving for fuel, because if I cover the carb inlet with my hand slightly it will run a little bit better, but still not great. I've taken the carb all the way apart and cleaned it twice, and I experimented with moving the main jet needle up a notch by adjusting the two circlips, but that made no difference.

Is there a fuel pump or something else I need to check to make sure the carb has good fuel supply? Anyone ever seen this before or have any ideas? I've not ruled out an electrical issue, but beings as it runs slightly better when I "choke" it with my hand, I've been leaning towards a fuel issue.

KFI Winch Mount

Just ordered a KFI 2500lb stealth model winch for my 17 Sportsman 850 SP on 2wheel.com, the only option they had for a mount was for the Touring model 850 SP. I went ahead and ordered it but got wondering if it'd also work on my 850 which is not a Touring model, anybody have any idea's on that? Also ordered a set of the Bear Claw HTR's while I was at it. 2wheel.com had the best price on them I could find plus they pay sales tax and shipping, also learned you earn cash when buying from them so when I ordered my winch and mount I got it for under 300 buck's. Hopefully the mount I ordered will work with the winch, I'll be excited to try the new tires out too.

Cant pull start my 500 efi

Hi have a 500 efi 2008, have tried to pull start it and have never managed to start it as there is so much compression and kick back/ recoil, is that normal have 2000 sportsman and that starts fist time on a pull and runs beautifully

starting in gear

Hi just brought a 2008 efi 500 and it wont start in gear and you have to put it in park or neutral every time you go to start it up, I thought if you applied the brake it would start but it doesn't. I have owned 2 500 1998 and 2000 sportsman and never had that issue, is there anything I can check or change as this is really frustrating thanks
