Morning folks,
Hello from Indiana where it is currently -37 degrees lol. Anyhow, heres the story, I bought a used 2000 polaris Trail Boss 325 for next to nothing. Prior owner had not started this thing for nearly 9 years and wasn't sure what was wrong with it. Once I got it home and started breaking it down, I had found there was a broken spark plug in the coil wire and the carb was as gummed up as humanly possible. I have now ordered a replacement carb for it along with a new plug. Now if you see anywhere I have made a mistake or had the wrong thinking please so advise. I put the new plug in it and tried to pull start it as it has compression along with oil in it to see if I had spark, I tried to arc it on the front rack of the machine with zero spark. My question, would I get spark off of the rack or would it have to be arced to the motor? Secondly, I have taken the old battery out of it because there was a hole in it along with the top caps being broken off, would it need to atleast have a battery in it or anything to have a spark to complete a circuit or anything? Also, where would one start in trying to figure out if it is in fact getting no spark, somehow testing the coil or the stator or cdi, I just dont wanna start throwing money at this, I have no issues changing the things that I visually can see that are bad but I don't wanna just be spitting and guessing either. I did hook my jump box up to the battery cables and the lights did come on along with the electric starter turning over but I got no spark that way either on the front rack. Please advise and thank you in advance. I cannot figure out how to post pictures in this, so if yall can help me out with that as well, it would be much appreciated.
