motors blown….what are my options

Just like the title says, im completely missing a piston. i have a 2016 sportsman 850 high lifter edition. the head is fine, some how didnt get damaged at all. Im going to have to bore it out cause it did damage the cylinder wall, or buy a new top half of the block.

so heres the options ive come up with:

1. do a pretty stock rebuild on it, going to have to bore it out anyway so might as well up the compression a little bit. then, there is the possibility of a bigger cam, doing some head work, and trying to custom tune it.

2. buy a stock motor and put it in and be done, but thats boring

3. will a 1000 motor bolt up the the 850 trans and frame? if so ill probably buy a 1000 engine and go that route.

4. buy a new top half of the motor, up the compression, port the head, and leave the stock cam.

All of these options include pulling the motor and doing a full rebuild of the bottom end with new bearings, seals, getting the crank ballanced, etc.

Im also open to other suggestions. Id like to get this rolling asap though. kind of a kick in the face when you buy a quad thinking its going to be an easy fix and finding out its completely screwed. atleast i got a good deal on it.

New tires – stock rims

Hey Everyone,

I have a 2016 sportsman 570 and need to replace the back tires. I want to get 26 inch tires. Kendra bear cows to be exact. Can I get 26x11x12 for the rears? Right now I have 25x10x12’s

Thanks for your help

Introducing myself.

Greetings
I have lurked for a couple of months. I figured it was time to post here. As I get on to this forum I will post more details and pictures. I purchased my machine in Oct 2018. I only got in a half dozen short rides before the snow started falling. The snow plow is fantastic, works better than I thought. Living on a mountain pass in Central Washington for over 40 years I use to swear by snow blowers. Both tractor mounted and walk behind. I sold my the tractor and the blower this fall, but I did keep the walk behind blower as it was still like new and has its place. I figured it would take me longer to clear the driveway with the Sportsman. I was wrong, much faster and with a bit of fun attached to it. I was pleasantly surprised at the ability to move some dirt around, (before the snow started falling).
Early February, I am going to load up the Sportsman into the back of my pickup, hook up my travel trailer and head down to Yuma Az. I know a perfect ATV friendly resort that has access to many many miles of ATV trails and roads in the desert. The access starts right out of the fence of the resort. I plan to stay 4-6 weeks and do as much riding as possible, probably daily.:grin I am not a extreme ATV rider, more like a trail exploring/touring type.
I do appreciate the information and help on this forum very much.
Thank you

Tire help

I realize there is endless information on this and I have read a lot of posts and peoples opinions. I think I have narrowed it down to three tires that I am choosing between. I have a 2014 Polaris sportsman 400 pretty much stock and will use it mainly for hunting and around the property.
I have 25x8-12 & 25x10-12 tire size.
The three options are:

-GBC Grim Reapers
- Kenda Bear Claws
- IBC Mudlites (insure which model)

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated .
Thanks

Oil/fluid leakage, somewhat viscous, doesn’t smell

Hi everyone I’ve got a Sportsman 570 SP -15 which runs well and hasn’t been used that extensively since I bought it new. I’ve carried out one original service and besides that only checking the oil levels, except the ones for front and rear transmission.

Now to my issue. A couple of days ago I put on snow chains and changed the gear to neutral and moved it by hand to be able to mount them.

After this I found a fluid stain about 4” in diameter under the front section of the ATV which won’t evaporate. Not exactly sure when it appeared though. The stain is clear, doesn’t smell and is somewhat viscous. All inspectable oil levels are okay except for the front and rear transmission which I haven’t been able to check since I need the right key and be able to lift the machine up.

I also found an unconnected nipple on the underside of the motor which seems to be leaking something, se pictures. Other than that I can’t find any leaks or wet spots on the motor or other mechanical parts on the vehicle.

So now I wonder how much of an issue this actually is? Can I run the machine without ruining it, what is the most plausible explanation, are these kind of leaks common, do I need to take it to the workshop straight away etc?

Sincerely,
Johan

05 polaris heavy duty springs on 04 sportsman 600?

Front end of my newish to me 2004.5 polaris sportsman 600 needed a bit of work, had a bad ball joint, and the tires were leaning in a bad way.
Figured a couple ball joints, and some heavy duty springs were in order.

In my haste of ordering last minute christmas gifts on amazon I ordered factory polaris heavy rate front springs, instead of the epi springs that were labeled as fitting a 2004.
I've got the front end tore apart right now, and comparing the springs, the new ones are 2" longer then the factory ones.
Are these springs going to work or do I need to send em back? I wouldn't mind a bit of a lift to the bike, I plan on running 26" tires here soon on it, and I'm a very heavy rider at near 400# with my regular gear on board.

If I need to send em back it's no biggie either, I've gotta wait in a cv boot to show up, (accidently tore it when dissasembling), and a couple other odds and ends anyhow.

Thanks for any help!
